Eurocity and project
It is a cross-border cooperation area formed by Ayamonte (Spain), Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António (Portugal). Its aim is to join forces to improve the quality of life, share services and plan the future together. The three municipalities form a European Grouping of Territorial Coordination (EGTC).
It is a technical work promoted by the EGTC Eurociudad del Guadiana in the framework of the European initiative Resilient Borders which aims to design a common vision of the territory, define strategic lines and propose specific projects towards the 2030 horizon. It is funded by the European Union and has the support of the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontaliére (MOT).
There are five main strategic lines of work: Mobility and cross-border connectivity, Territorial System and Integrated Planning, Circular and blue economy, Sustainable tourism and culture, and Services and social innovation.
These are concrete proposals that emerge from each pilot action. These are visible and fundable projects, such as the extension of the International Bridge with a pedestrian bridge, new nautical marinas, planning geoportals or urban tree plans.
Citizen Participation
There are several ways: answering the online questionnaires (in Portuguese or Spanish), submitting photos for the citizens' gallery, attending technical and open days, or sharing your proposals through the participation mailbox.

Yes, the website has a citizens' gallery space where images submitted by residents and visitors that reflect the identity and landscape of the Eurocity will be displayed.

In the Resources section you will find the previous strategic documents, the Pilot Study and access to the territorial geo-viewer.
It is an interactive tool that allows to explore maps of the Eurocity territory, to know the land classification, the development proposals and the location of the pilot projects.
About Resilient Borders and the EU
These are a series of actions funded by the European Union to strengthen the resilience of border regions through joint planning and crisis management. Ten pilot actions have been selected in each of the two modalities.
The EGTC Eurociudad del Guadiana, in contact with the regional entities that have the competences, the urban planning and planning services of the municipalities of Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António and the support of the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontaliére (MOT) and the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR).
It makes it a European benchmark in cross-border planning, increases cooperation between municipalities and transforms the border into an opportunity for sustainable development, which can open up new avenues for financing infrastructure and investment in the territory.
