Eurociudad del Guadiana exchanges experiences of sustainable mobility in Gipuzkoa

The Territorial Transport Authority of Gipuzkoa (ATTG) has received a delegation from the Eurociudad del Guadiana EGTCin the framework of the European project Resilient Borders - SP7 and within the coordination of AFOMEF in the Interreg VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme.

The visit was welcomed by Miguel Ángel Páez EscamendiVice-Minister for Infrastructures and Sustainable Mobility of the Basque Government and Vice-President of the ATTG, and of Eluska Renedo IllarreguiDirector General of the ATTG.

During the day, political and technical representatives from Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António were particularly interested in learning first-hand about experiences in the area of sustainable mobility, cross-border public transport and ticket interoperabilityas well as in the management of shared environmental spaces.

ATTG shared its trajectory in cross-border and trans-regional projectsThe project also includes a number of local initiatives aimed at sustainability and institutional cooperation in public transport.

One of the central points of the meeting was the system of MUGIa single card that integrates all modes of public transport in Gipuzkoa. Its governance model, based on collaboration between public and private operators and local, provincial, state and regional institutions, has been highlighted as a European benchmark in terms of accessibility, territorial cohesion and shared management.

According to Miguel Ángel Páez:

"It is a priority to make it as easy as possible for users to use the different modes of transport between our countries. Collaboration and cooperation are key to progress towards sustainable and connected mobility, with the support of Europe".

The delegation also visited the control centre of the MUGI system, where they learned in detail about its operation and management.

This day reinforces the shared will of the Eurocity of Guadiana and the ATTG of promoting sustainable, inclusive and connected transport modelsThe project will be implemented within and beyond national borders, in line with the objectives of the Resilient Borders project.
